Our friendly nationwide clinics provide a service for women who want to be proactive about their breast health. Our website is a valuable resource for women who are interested in learning about the benefits that breast thermography can offer.
What Is Breast Thermography?
Thermography uses ultra-sensitive infrared cameras and sophisticated software to detect, analyse and produce high-resolution images of temperature variations in the breasts. Studies indicate that these temperature variations may be among the earliest signs of breast cancer. Breast thermography is used extensively overseas and is fast gaining popularity in New Zealand. Breast thermography is safe, non-contact, radiation free and painless.
How Does It Work?
By carefully examining changes in the temperature and blood vessels of the breasts, signs of possible cancer or pre-cancerous cell growth may be detected in the very early stages of development. Because of breast thermography's extreme sensitivity, these temperature variations and vascular changes may be among the earliest signs of breast cancer and / or a pre-cancerous state of the breast.
What Does the Appointment Involve?
The scan, including the time to acclimatise to the temperature of the procedure room takes approximately 30 minutes. Once you have acclimatised, a series of thermal images is taken by our friendly female nurse. There is absolutely no contact during the examination.
Who Is Thermography Suitable For?
Breast thermography is suitable for women of all ages, including younger women, those with breast implants or denser breast tissue, fibrocystic breast conditions and women with a family history of breast cancer.
